Soups in the Cellar - Boordy Vineyards

Thursday, November 8, 2012

Last weekend, Mike and I took a trip to Boordy Vineyards with my best friend Katie and her boyfriend Tyler for their Soups in the Cellar event. Every Sunday in November, they host an event where you can taste Boordy's wine and try homemade soups from Clementine restaurant. They also have live music, winery tours, and a beautiful outdoor space with a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

Mike and I took a trip to this event last year but when we arrived, they had sold all the tickets. Instead, we ended up buying a wine tasting & tour pass and still had a nice afternoon. The weather last year was beautiful so while we couldn't participate in the soup and music part of the event, we bought a bottle of their Riesling from their Icons of Maryland series and sat outside on a blanket to enjoy the day. We decided that we would come again and make sure we bought tickets in advance.

So, this year as planned, we came with blankets, snacks, board games, and friends ready to have a good time. We bought our tickets online two weeks early and arrived right on time. What we didn't know was that most people had been waiting in line before the event started, and by the time we tasted our wines and went to get soup and sit upstairs, all of the tables had been taken. For hours, people sat at their tables playing games, eating, drinking and enjoying the warmth and music. There was nowhere for us to sit but outside and unfortunately, this year, it was MUCH colder. We were pretty disappointed, but once again, learned a lesson that will help us plan for next year.

We did end up having a good time and enjoyed the delicious soups but it got pretty cold. We never even opened our snacks or games at the winery. Instead, we bought the Shiraz from their Icons of Maryland series, finished the bottle, ate our soup, and then packed up and went back to our apartment. Katie and Tyler followed us back and we built a fire in our fireplace and enjoyed snacks back at home.

The Maryland Crab was really good! I had three bowls of that same soup!

We still had a really good time, but next year, we will come prepared for the crowds. Third time's a charm, I guess!

  1. Wow that looks like a blast! Loving you two chicks in your awesome boots hha!
They should have an outside spot with some heaters, but sometimes you just have to roll with like you all did. It's more fun that way, a better story to remember hehe :)
